play

PISCATAWAY −Rutgers football is 2-0.

The Scarlet Knights blew out Miami (Ohio) 45-17 on Sept. 6 at SHI Stadium to improve to 2-0 this season.

They have one more nonconference game − against Norfolk State on Sept. 13.

Rutgers’ offense continues to show its formidable, while its defense, though improved, again showed signs of vulnerability.

Here’s how the game unfolded and highlights:

Another good day for the offense. Questionable one for the defense.

Officially a blowout.

1:53 to go in the game as the Scarlet Knights close in on moving to 2-0.

Kaliakmanis throws his fourth TD pass of the game, this time a five-yard pass to DT Sheffield.

It’s 38-10 Rutgers with 5:42 to go.

Rutgers needed that TD.

Strong today has eight catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

Kaliakmanis is 21-of-29 passing for 213 yards and three TDs.

A 69-yard pass helped the RedHawks get down to the 15.

Finn later ran it in from 2 yards out for a touchdown.

It’s now 24-17 Rutgers with 10:21 to go in the third quarter.

Good half for Rutgers’ offense, which has generated 214 total yards. It’s been a pretty balanced attack with 53 rushing yards and 161 passing yards.

But the defense has again left something to be desired.

The RedHawks have 211 yards.

Bo Mascoe’s interception that killed a Miami threat and led to a Rutgers touchdown was the highlight for the defense.

Good showing from Rutgers’ offense continues, as the Scarlet Knights are now up 24-7 with 1:20 to go in the first half.

Kaliakmanis is 16-of-21 for 161 yards with two touchdowns.

Big sequence from Rutgers.

Miami had first-and-goal from the 25 following a offensive PI call, but CB Bo Mascoe intercepted a pass and returned it 68 yards to the RedHawks 12.

Three plays later Raymond ran it in for a TD with 8:18 to go in the second quarter.

Rutgers got down to the RedHawks 7, with some help from a holding call on Miami, but a third-down sack for a loss of 11 forced the Scarlet Knights to have to settle for the field goal.

12:34 to go in the second half.

Rutgers’ early lead didn’t last long.

Miami QB Dequan Finn hit Kam Perry for a 62-yard pass to get to the Rutgers 1, and one play later D’Shawntae Jones punched the ball in from there for a touchdown.

It’s 7-7 with 5:11 to go in the first quarter.

Stong opening drive for Rutgers, who went 75 yards on 11 plays, capped off with Athan Kaliakmanis hitting Ian Strong for a 14-yard touchdown pass.

The start of Rutgers football’s game against Miami (Ohio) on Sept. 6 has been delayed due to a storm that hit the area.

About 45 minutes prior to the scheduled 3:30 kickoff time, a message that said lightning was in the area and instructed fans to shelter in place was shown on the videoboard. An announcement was then made telling fans to leave the stands and go into the SHI Stadium concourses.

The teams left the field and retreated to the locker rooms.

A strong storm then moved through, causing tents and garbage cans on the sidelines to get blown all over the field.

The storm has passed, and fans have returned to the stands. The teams, though, have not returned to the field to resume warmups.

Rutgers DB Noah Shaw is out for the season

Shaw is in his second season with the Scarlet Knights. He made his debut in the Rate Bowl last December.
